8 Days Oldoinyo Lengai Climbing, Cultural Tour, Serengeti, Lake Natron, Lake Eyasi

Tour Overview:

“Oldoinyo Lengai” means “The Mountain of God” in the Maasai language. The summit of this strato-volcano is 2962 metres above sea level, and affords direct views into the caldera of Tanzania’s only officially-certified active volcano, and the world’s only carbonatite volcano; records of eruptions have been maintained since 1883, the largest of which deposited ash 100 kilometres away in Loliondo on the Kenyan border to the north west.

Arrive Day

Upon arriving to Kilimanjaro International Airport you will meet our representative and after greeting you will be transferred to Moshi town for overnight stay at Key's Annex hotel or Buffalo hotel.

Day 1: Moshi - Longido Cultural Tourism

In the morning after breakfast you will meet your tour guide for briefing about your tour. After some explanations you will be driving for about 3 hours to Longido village with your packed lunch to the authentic Maasai community. Maasai tribe is among the few tribes in Tanzania and East Africa at large which still practice primitive communalism way of life. Apart from their way of living, Maasai community is renowned for it strongest and warriors of the jungle. A local guide will take you around various homesteads where Maasai elder will tell you all about their way of life. In the evening you will have dinner and overnight at the Campsite.

Day 2: Longido - Lake Manyara Park

After breakfast, leave for Lake Manyara National Park for a full day game drive with picnic lunch. Lake Manyara is a birdwatcher's paradise and an awesome sight for varieties of species, flamingo, spoonbill, teal, pelican, kingfisher, hornbill and cormorant. In the tall trees, forest monkeys leap from branch to branch on the slope of the Great Rift escarpment, elephants stand in the shade of the baobab; and in the acacia woodland, and lions lie draped along the branches of the umbrella trees. In the late afternoon you will drive back to the camp for hot shower, dinner and overnight at Manyara – Twiga Campsite.

Day 3: Lake Manyara - Lake Eyasi

Early in the morning after breakfast, cross Great Rift Valley and keep on pushing to the slopes of Ngorongoro highlands and onto Lake Eyasi, home to last remnant of bushman in Tanzania. You will spent most of the day here with local guide visiting a number of simple make shift homestead. Spend few hours on Lake Eyasi while enjoying well packed picnic lunch. In the evening we will have dinner and overnight at Bushmen Campsite.

Days 4: Lake Eyasi – Ngorongoro Crater

In the morning before dawn you will be awaken by your local guide ready for hunting safari. You will be searching for an animal for hunting using local weapons. (Remember this isn't inside the national parks it is outside the parks). In the morning you will be back for breakfast and preparation of barbeque. You will share the meal with the Hadzabe who inhabit the region. Hadzabe are among the fewer tribes in the world which really practice the bush life as well as primitive communalism way of life. You will have more time to interact with them and learn their daily activities. You will walk along the Lake Eyasi which consists of numerous numbers of birdlife. In the afternoon after lunch you will be driving to Ngorongoro and upon your arrival you will have shower, dinner and overnight at Simba Campsite.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park

In the morning after breakfast you will meet your tour guide and start your safari to Serengeti National Park (optional pass by Olduvai Gorge the prehistorically site of the first mankind on earth). You're your arrival explore the endless plains of Serengeti with game viewing; a magnificent experience waits as you travel to the most famous wildlife park in Africa the legendary Serengeti. Here you might have the chance to see the migration, where thousands of zebra and wildebeest make trip from the Masai Mara in Kenya and Ngorongoro Highland in Tanzania every year. Packed lunch is served and proceeds for an afternoon game drive. In the late afternoon drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight at the Serengeti Seronera Campsite.

Day 6: Serengeti National Park – Full Day

In the morning after breakfast you will meet your tour guide for starting a game drive to Serengeti National Park for a full day game drive. Serengeti is the largest national park in Tanzania covering more than 14,000 square kilometers. The park is having numerous numbers of unique features and attractions among them include: The annual great wildebeest migration (whereby wildebeest, zebra and gazelle migrates from Serengeti National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and come back later in the year), the park is famous for its endless plains and the savannah vegetation that it owns, balloon safari and been the richest park full of wildlife and birdlife elsewhere in Africa. The park also supports many species of wildlife including Lion, African Leopard, African Elephant, cheetah, African Buffalo, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, topi, eland, water buck, hyena, baboon, impala, African wild dog and giraffe. The park also boasts about 500 bird species, including ostrich, secretary bird, Kori bustard, crowned crane, marabou stork, martial eagle, lovebirds and many species of vultures. Your tour guide will therefore take you back late in the afternoon at your campsite for dinner and overnight at the Serengeti Lobo Campsite.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park – Lake Natron

Early Morning breakfast then start to drive to Lake Natron with picnic lunch via Lobo Gate. You will arrive late afternoon. Have a short walk around the lake and waterfalls before return to the camp for resting and prepare for Oldoinyo Lengai Trekking at midnight. Your driver guide will take you to the base of Mount Oldoinyo Lengai and start trekking. Your trekking will be about 7 to 8 hours round time and you will be back to the camp late morning for hot shower, lunch and total rest. In the evening you will have hot shower, dinner and overnight at the Kamakia campsite.

Day 8: Lake Natron - Arusha Park

After late breakfast start another tour around Lake Natron, later start to drive back to Arusha via Mto wa Mbu village. This will be a long day drive. You will arrive in Arusha in the evening and have a short rest before been transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.
