Udzungwa National Park has got one of East Africa's great forests relatively undiscovered nestling in the arc of the chain of East African Mountains. Located a few kilometers off Mikumi National Park road to Iringa, it is 348 kms. from Dar es Salaam or 65 kms, South-west of Mikumi Township. It covers an area of approximately 1,900 sq.km lying between 300 and 2,800 meters above sea level. This great attitudinal range makes for a greater diversity of vegetation and thus a habitat for different species.

Udzungwa National Park is home to Iringa Colobus monkeys and Sanje Crested Mangabeys as well as leopards, elands, water bucks, bush bucks and duikers. Udzungwa Mountains also qualify to be the richest forest bird habitat in Tanzania and one of the top three most important zones for bird conservation in Africa.

4 Days / 3 Nights - Mikumi / Udzungwa National Park / Ruaha Safari
Day 1:

After breakfast, leave Dar es Salaam for Mkumi National Park. Lunch at the lodge / tented camp / campsite in Mikumi National Park. Afternoon / evening game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at the lodge / tented campsite.

Day 2:

Morning game drive in Mikumi National Park. Lunch at the lodge / tented camp/campsite. Afternoon departure for Udzungwa National park. Dinner and overnight at a lodge/ campsite in Udzungwa.

Day 3:

Morning walking safari in the park. Lunch at the lodge / campsite. Afternoon game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at the lodge/campsite.

Day 4:

After breakfast drive back to Dar es salaam via Mikumi National Park (with picnic lunch). End of the tour.

Day 1: After breakfast leave Dar es Salaam for Mikumi

Your visit to Mikumi National Park offers you an opportunity of seeing the Mikumi elephants which are considered to be more compact than those in the rest of he country. Observation towers above the tree line allow panoramic views of the flood plan laid out below, home to formidable herds of buffalo. When the rains start, they swell the park's population of birds to more than 300 species as Europe migrants seek refuge in Mikumi. Lunch at the lodge / tented camp / campsite Afternoon / evening game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at the lodge / tented camp / campsite.

Day 2:

Morning game drive in the park. Lunch at the lodge / tented camp /campsite. Afternoon departure for Udzungwa National Park. The Udzungwa mountains are regarded as one of the richest forest bird habitats in Tanzania and one of the top three most important zones for bird conservation in Africa. Dinner and overnight at the lodge / campsite.

Day 3:

After breakfast, morning walking safari in the park. Lunch at the lodge / hotel / campsite. Afternoon game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at the lodge / campsite.

Day 4:
After breakfast transfer to Ruaha National Park.

Why is Ruaha National Park recommended as one of the best tourist destinations in Tanzania? The answer is very simple:

(a) It is the only protected area in which the flora and fauna of eastern and southern Africa overlap, leading to fascinating combination of wildlife including, the greater and lesser kudu, sable antelopes and roan antelopes.

(b) It is the only park in which one is assured of spotting the rare and endangered wild dogs.

(c) It has the highest elephant population density (i.e. the largest in East African parks).

Lunch in Iringa town. After lunch proceed to Ruaha National Park. Dinner and overnight at Mwagusi Safari camp / campsite.

Day 5:

After breakfast, full day game drive in the park. Picnic Lunch in the park. Dinner and overnight at Mwagusi Safari camp / campsite.

Day 6:

After breakfast drive back to Dar es Salaam. Depending on the itinerary you might extend your service to Zanzibar Island for beach holiday or been transferred to Dar Es Salaam International Airport for your flight back home.
